A Cry For Help

Among the 31.7 million people of "concern" to UNHCR, 10.7 million or more than 30% are in Africa. Among this total, nearly 2.5 million are refugees. While the United States responds to their needs in many ways, nearly all of them have no means of support when they arrive in this country and they need help from the communities.

Our Mission

Our mission statement is to provide social and educational services to meet the needs of persons who seek to enhance their self-sufficiency.

Who We Are

The (RIRC), formerly known as Betania Community Center (BCC), is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and an affiliate of the Ethiopian Community Development Council, Inc. (ECDC). The agency was founded in 1989 to provide social, economic and educational services to the inner city residents of Phoenix. In 2001 the RIRC began resettling refugees. The Kakuma Youth or Lost Boys were among the first arrivals to the agency. From 2001 to present, the RIRC has resettled 1320 refugees and immigrants in the Maricopa County."

Our programs provide recently arrived refugees and legal immigrants with housing, food and clothing, and translation as needed, as well as English-language instruction, job training, employment help, immigration and other referral services.

As a whole, the Refugee Resettlement Program is comprised of the Reception and Placement Program, the Refugee Program, the Matching Grant Program and the Preferred Communities program.
